Olive wood is easily recognized and differentiated from other woods by its unique and aesthetic grain. The artistically smooth and elegant grain of the olive wood is recognized world wide it as the most unique wood known to man.

Olive wood branches have been the symbol of peace and promise of hope for thousands of years; since a dove returned to Noah’s Ark bearing an olive tree branch. All things carved of this hard wood have a varying and smooth grain making each piece extraordinary.
Artistic olive wood carvings are rarely found in the United States. You can be assured that there is only one authentic Holywood olive wood knitting needle. People all over the world treasure olive wood for its sense of spirituality, peace and hope.
Olive Trees

Olive trees are planted in the hundreds in Israel every year. In most cases they are harvested for many years before they are cut down. Only when they stop producing are they cut down. Olive wood products from Holywood knits come from trimmings which are an essential element for a healthy tree.
The olive wood trimmings are then cured or dried for three to five years before our artists begin their work on Holywood needles, buttons and closures.
Olive trees are actually evergreens. They have a very hard wood and grow from 12 to 16 feet in height with a trunk circumference of 18 to 28 inches. The Olive is an exotic wood with an extremely varying grain. Its distinctive red pigmented grain makes it one of the most mysterious and unpredictable woods known to man. It is difficult, if not impossible, to perfectly match the grain of two pieces because the pattern of the grain is hidden deep within the heart of the wood.
Olive Wood Care
Olive wood care is simple. If you'd like to maintain or enhance the luster of the wood you can polish it with bee’s wax or tung oil now and then. Our products come in two finishes - natural or light gloss. The care is the same for both.
